Greg Oden is still a thing so let's try to enjoy it

Roll out the cameras, clear out the high school gymnasiums, cue the millions of basketball fans nervously awaiting the news of what team a former number one overall pick is going to choose.

That's right, Greg Oden, the big old Buckeye made of glass will choose a new team today after playing 82 games, enough for one full season, in his first six seasons since being drafted. He should not be asking for much considering his track record of injuries, but depending on the price, he's a low risk, high reward player.

Currently six teams are in pursuit of the 7'0" big man including the Heat, Spurs and Mavericks.

But before I say anything nice about him, let's just take a look at the injuries this guy has had since 2007:

Date: 9/13/07
Injury: Fracture to right knee
Time missed: Entire 2007-2008 season

Date: 10/28/08 (NBA Debut)
Injury: Andrew Bynum stepped on Oden's right foot, spraining it.
Time missed: Two weeks

Date: 2/12/09
Injury: Chipped left patella after bumping knees with Corey Maggette
Time missed: Three weeks

Date: 12/5/09
Injury: Fractured left patella
Time missed: Well, we still really haven't seen him.

After missing training camp, preseason and the start of the season in 2010, Oden announced he'd have microfracture surgery again. And now we're here.

Listen, I like Greg Oden. I liked him on Ohio State and will never consider him a "bust." Draft busts are reserved for those who go out there and are absolutely putrid (see one JaMarcus Russell). Oden has shown flashes of what he is capable of, putting up big time double-double efforts and showing some big-time strength down low.

I'll be rooting for Oden. Unless he goes to the Heat. Then I just can't.

Among other teams interested in him are the Pelicans (that will always be a minor league baseball team in my book), Kings and Hawks. I have my fingers crossed for you you big lunk, now show the NBA what you're really made of and for goodness sake, protect that knee.
